Located on Lake Michigan in the heart of the city’s most vibrant neighborhood, South Shore Yacht Club is the largest and most inviting yacht club where people from all backgrounds come together to relax, connect, and enjoy the lakefront. We’re a vibrant, community-focused club with great amenities and plenty of ways for members to get involved. Founded in 1913 on a floating clubhouse—the LILY E Schooner—we’re proud of our rich history. Our current clubhouse, built in 1938, is home to the nationally known Queen’s Cup Race across Lake Michigan. Whether you’re a lifelong sailor, a first-time visitor, or just here for great food, sunset views, great company and family-friendly events, there’s something for everyone!
Being a member is all about embracing life by the lake. For some, it’s the thrill of sailing and power boating. For others, it’s the unbeatable views, the warm community, or simply the relaxed atmosphere at our bar and restaurant. Many of our members live just around the corner and join to connect with neighbors, unwind, and soak in the scenery from our inviting, year-round venue. Whether you're here for the water or the friendships, you'll feel right at home.

A huge part of the SSYC experience is our busy calendar of social events. The Entertainment Committee plans and hosts a variety of small and large events throughout the year.
If you are interested in sailing, and more specifically racing, there are ample opportunities to join one of our racing fleets, or to crew on one of the boats in those fleets. The women's fleet races on Mondays, small boats race on Tuesdays. Big boats race on Wednesdays and Saturdays. And the double handed fleet races on Fridays.
You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here. And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.
Power boats are an important part of the SSYC Fleet. Members own and operate many types of vessels including cruisers, antique boats, pontoons and motorized dinghies. If you have a boat with a motor, you will find yourself at home among our power fleet.
In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.
